Loch Ness The famous Loch Ness is the largest Scottish loch (Loch Lomond is the second largest). Loch Ness is famous for its legendary monster, or Nessie, as she has become affectionately known. The loch is known as Loch Nis in Gaelic, and is very deep and long, approximately extending to thirty seven kilometres south west of Inverness in the heart of the Highlands of Scotland. The water of Loch Ness is very fresh, and pours in from all the wee burns of the surrounding hills and glens, from Inverness to the north to Fort William to the south. The loch is very deep, around 230 metres, and holds more water than all the English lakes. Loch Ness is also very long, covering 23 miles in a massive valley, where you will find many Scottish attractions. The landscape, from one hill to another, is always different and is full of wildlife. To top up your knowledge, you could visit the Loch Ness Exhibition Centre in the lovely village of Drumnadrochit.

Here you will see the turbines used to generate electricity for the surrounding area. You could take a boat cruise, which goes up and down the whole of Loch Ness, or participate in other water sports, such as sailing or canoeing. Or why not just stay on the banks of the loch to fish for salmon and trout? There is also skiing on nearby Ben Nevis, or you could take your golf clubs and hit the golf courses. Scotland is the best, and there are so many things for everyone to enjoy at Loch Ness, one of the best lochs in Scotland. It is a world renowned holiday destination, perfect if you want to relax and unwind, and you can always hope for a sighting of Nessie.
