Isle of Arran is the most southerly Scottish Isle, nineteen miles long along the Firth of Clyde between Kintyre and Ayrshire. The Arran is sometimes called Scotland in Miniature because the Isle captures many aspects of Scotland as a whole. Arran has gorgeous scenery along the coast of Clyde and an interesting history, as well as many famous golf courses and beautiful countryside. Arran is located close to the city of Glasgow and is ideal for flights from Glasgow Airport. There is an hourly ferry crossing at Ardrossan as well as a seasonal ferry from Lochranza on the north coast or from Claonaig on the Kintyre. The ferry can be reached via the M74 south of Glasgow towards Irvin, or via the M77 from Glasgow towards Kilmarnock.
Arran is famous for its traditional Scottish hospitality. There are many outdoor activities to enjoy on the Isle, and spectacular wildlife along the Arran hills and mountains including wild red deer and golden eagles. Brodick Castle has many interesting artifacts and beautiful gardens, and Arran’s famous golf courses are known throughout Scotland. Arran also has important sites for those interested in plants, with an incredible range of species comparable to New Zealand, China and the Caribbean. There are many tours to enjoy, including the Scottish whisky tour at Lochranza Distillery, and also the Brodick Brewery. During the winter some of these attractions are closed.
Arran is also well known for its cycling paths, along coastal roads as well as through woodland and countryside. There is a lovely cycle path to the south of Arran which is nine miles long, through the forest from Whiting Bay to Kilmory. All of the necessary information about walks and cycling routes can be obtained from the tourist information centre in Brodick.
There is a lovely castle near Goaffell Mountain, just over a mile from Brodick town which is the main port of Arran. The castle was built with red sandstone and is almost hidden by trees. Culzean Castle and Country Park are also fantastic places to visit on the South Ayreshire coast, located just off the A719 on the way to the Isle of Arran.
The Arran Single Malt whisky is one of the best whiskies in Scotland; this Single Malt received seven Silver Medals over the years at the international Wine and Spirits competition which has the global Oscars in type of business. This famous lovely Arran Single Malt whisky exported all over the world which count over forty countries.
The Arran coast line is dotted with individual villages, while the rugged mountains, forest and woodland to the south of Arran provide a magical backdrop.
