Auld Reekie Guest House - Guesthouse

The Auld Reekie Guest House provides comfortable luxurious accommodation. All bedrooms are well decorated for extra comfort and all are en-suite with TV, hairdryer and hospitality tray. The rooms on the upper floor look out to Blackford Hill and the Royal Observatory and, in the other direction, onto Arthur’s Seat, Edinburgh’s ancient extinct volcano. We have ground floor accommodation but there are a few steps up to the front door, therefore please ask about accessibility prior to booking.

Buses  number 3, 31, 36, 69, 80 or 8 from the city centre will bring you to our road. Or you could take a taxi from Waverley train station which will cost you around £6 one way. If you are traveling by road from the bypass, take the A720 and then the A701 towards the city centre and Mayfield Gardens, which passes in front of our main door. We are a non-smoking guest house.

We arrived at Auld Reekie Guest House to find that the owner was not there. We stood outside in the rain for probably a good 10-15 minutes before the next door neighbor came out to help us. He contacted the owner, who was currently at a concert, and let us in. We were not contacted for the rest of the night. At least the owner could have come to check on us when she arrived back home. We were made to feel like the \"misunderstanding\" was our fault the next morning at breakfast. We were told that we had somehow, without our knowing (we came from the states and had no other way of knowing)booked our stay through an booking agent and not \"directly\" with Auld Reekie Guest House. The owner claimed that the agent tried to contact us several times the week before our stay (by this time we were already in Scotland...far from home, without a working cell phone, and without internet access) in order to find out what time we estimated our arrival was to be in Edinburgh. Since we were traveling from the Isle of Mull, we were unsure of our arrival time due to ferry schedules, bus schedules, and train schedules that we were unable to access until we arrived in Scotland. *Long story short: we were made to feel like an inconvinience in a large unfamiliar city in a foreign country and left, quite literally, out in the rain. It was far from the relaxing night we were looking forward to as our last in Scotland before heading home on the long cross-Atlantic flight the next morning.
